Uasin Gishu Politicians Appointed To State Jobs So Far

It has been about six months since the Kenya Kwanza government took over power, after winning the August 9, 2022, polls.

President William Ruto took an oath of office in September 2022 and has since then been setting up his government with various appointments.

From Cabinet Secretaries, advisors and state corporation chairpersons to the most recent Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) Ruto has made tens of appointments – and more are expected to come.

We take a look at some of the Uasin Gishu politicians who lost in the 2022 general election but have landed a job in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Prof. Julius Bitok

He vied for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat and finished second behind Jonathan Bii Chelilim in UDA nominations.

Prof. Bitok was later appointed Principal Secretary of the State Department of Citizen Services in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

Veska Kangogo

She also unsuccessfully sought the UDA ticket for the governor’s seat.

Veska Kangogo is now one of the directors at Kenya Power.

Amb. Sarah Serem

Amb. Serem is another Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant who managed to secure a state job after a failed bid.

She was in January 2023 appointed the chairperson for the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank (Postbank).

Caleb Kositany

The former Soy Member of Parliament was in the race to be the second governor of Uasin Gishu but failed at the UDA nomination level.

Kositany considered a close ally of President William Rut,o had to wait for over six months to secure a state job.

He was recently appointed the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) chairperson.

Rael Chebichii Lelei

Rael Chebichii has twice vied for the Uasin Gishu County Woman MP seat – but failed on both occasions.

In 2017, she finished second behind Gladys Boss Shollei during Jubilee party nominations but opted to go independent, also finishing second.

In 2022, she also finished behind Shollei in the UDA nominations and was recently nominated to be a Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), The ASALS and Regional Development.

Kipchumba Karori

The youthful politician sought the Uasin Gishu UDA Senate ticket but lost to former Governor Jackson Mandago in the nominations.

He had threatened to go independent before later agreeing to back Mandago.

Later, he was appointed among legal advisors in the Office of the President.

More Uasin Gishu politicians are expected to land state appointments – with the President yet to unveil his preferred list of ambassadors.
