In a move to realize increased revenues across the streams, the County Government of Uasin Gishu on Monday held a stakeholder engagement with the maize buyers both local and regional on a discussion that centred on cess from the agricultural products.
Speaking during the meeting, Director for Revenue Management CPA Jonah Lamai noted that with the association coming in place to assist the County to collect cess from the agricultural produce, they will be able to move freely, therefore, boosting service delivery.
He added that they are working on harmonized ways of ensuring that all the traders pay cess with ease and at affordable rates since the county has several inlets and outlets.

The traders also proposed a fee of Ksh,3000 for trailers and Ksh2,000 for small trucks.
New system
Meanwhile, the county is in the process of developing a new system that will help ease the revenue collection and data of the government.
While addressing Acting Chief Officers and Directors at the County hall, Deputy County Secretary Joyce Kebenei highlighted on the importance of a first-hand system in revenue management as it guides the government in identifying the revenues collected at a specific time frame.

On her part, Acting Chief Officer for Information and Communications Technolgy (ICT) Elizabeth Birgen urged them to present recommendations on the features that should be incorporated into the system with up-to-date information on the revenue collected.
The recommendations proposed by the directors include; a system that traces who is paying the revenue, the physical location of the person and specific information on what is being paid for.
It should also be a system that identifies all licenses under one unified license.
