The County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched an initiative that will see the establishment of Mama Mboga kiosks in areas that have traditional or informal markets.
The project is being implemented by the Department of Trade and Industrialization.
According to Acting Chief Officer for Trade Kipleting Mengich, the move is geared towards realizing Governor Jonathan Bii’s Nguzo Kumi manifesto.

The manifesto targets embracing the sub-county development model to drive local economic development, including townships and villages, based on comparative and strategic advantages, placing traders’ stalls on strategic and appropriate streets in consultation with representatives of membership-based organizations of informal traders.
Mengich further said the department had already carried out the piloting of at least two kiosks in Moiben Junction and Tugen Estate.

“The sheds are of great help to mama mboga who used to sell their produce on bare grounds,” said the acting Trade Chief Officer.
