Uasin Gishu Student In Finland For Studies Allegedly Commits Suicide

A family in Tharakwa, Kesses Sub County has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of their son.

The son, Rodgers Kipruto, is said to have died by suicide in Finland where he was enrolled for further studies a few months ago.

Kipruto left the country in September 2022 after he secured an opportunity to study Nursing at Laurea University’s Tikkurila Campus in Finland.

The opportunity was courtesy of the controversial Uasin Gishu County’s overseas program.

Details of the student’s death remain scanty.

Laurea University has so far not released any official communication relating to the death of Kipruto who hails from Chirchir area.

Before flying to Finland for further studies, Kipruto worked at Mediheal Hospital, Nakuru branch.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim on Wednesday night confirmed the death.

In a statement in his official Facebook page, the Governor described the late Kipruto as a bright young man.

It is with utter shock that I have learnt of the sudden passing on of Rodgers Kipruto, a bright young man from Tarakwa Ward, Kesses Sub County.,” Bii said in part of the statement.

He also shared his condolences with the family and loved ones affected by the death.

According to the county boss, Rodgers Kipruto’s passing is a great loss to his family, friends, the Chirchir community, and the nursing profession.

His ambition and unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in society are testaments to his character,” Bii said.

Plans to fly the body back into the country have started even as police in Finland are expected to probe the incident.
