UDA Announces Nomination Dates

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced dates in which it will be holding nominations to pick candidates for various seats.

In a statement shared on its official social media pages, UDA through its National Elections Board Chairman Eng. Anthony Mwaura said the nominations will be held from 9th to 16th April 2022.

“The nominations will be held in all counties across the republic,” Eng. Mwaura said in the statement.

The elections board also affirmed that it has no preferred candidates, and that the nomination exercise will be free and fair.

It further said no candidate will be issued with a direct ticket.

“The party leader his Excellency the Deputy President William Ruto has personally given his undertaking that the nominations will be free and fair.  This means the party has no preferred aspirant and it has not set aside any direct ticket. All aspirants will face Wanjiku’s verdict on nomination day,” NEB chair stated in the statement.

And with the nominations date set, the UDA party now says it has started a verification process for aspirants that have already paid nomination fees.

The party announced its nominations fee for various seats on February 3, 2022 – where women and youth aspirants will be paying half the amount compared to their male counterparts.

Aspirants with disabilities wishing to vie for various seats on a UDA ticket will not be paying any nomination fee.

MCA male aspirants wil be required to pay Ksh50,000 nomination fee, with women and youth paying Ksh25,000. MP and Senate seat attracts a Ksh250,000 fee for men and Ksh125,000 for women and youth.

Those eyeing gubernatorial seat will be required to pay Ksh500,000 for male aspirants and Ksh250,000 for women and youth.

“We wish to remind all those intending to participate in the nomination to pay their fees by the stated dateline of February 28, 2022,” UDA elections board said.

The board also announced that it will be making countrywide tours to meet all its aspirants in counties. The first engagement will be this Thursday and Friday with scheduled meetings for a spirants in Narok, Bomet, Kericho and Nandi counties.

“We will provide dates for the other county visits on our party website,” said the NEB chairman.

Based on recent surveys, UDA is the most popular party, and is expected to attract hundreds of aspirants for all the elective seats.

In Uasin Gishu, for example, there are over 80 aspirants eyeing the Governor, Senator, Woman Rep and MP seats on a UDA ticket.
