President Uhuru Kenyatta is today, July 1, 2022, visiting Eldoret town to preside over the passing-out parade for the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruits.
The recruits have been taken through an extensive military training and will formally be joining the various KDF sections among them Kenya Airforce, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Army.
Uhuru will be presiding over the event on his capacity as the Commander in Chief of the KDF.

The passing-out parade will be held at the Moi Barracks Recruits Training College (RTS) located a few kilometers from Eldoret town.
This will be the last event Uhuru will be presiding over as the Head of State.
The President is expected to jet into Eldoret town early this morning before proceeding to the Moi Barracks RTS.
In the last passing-out parade, Uhuru was received by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Eng. Alex Tolgos at the Eldoret Airstrip.

But with the hightened political temperatures ahead of the August 9 poll, it remains unclear if he will fly straight to Moi Barracks.
Aside from the passing-out parade, the Head of State is also scheduled to open a KDF Eldoret Regional Hospital – located within the military establishment near Soy.
The hospital will be offering health services to the military and their families.
It had earlier been expected that Uhuru would use his visit to Eldoret to officially open the Eldoret bypass which is now complete.

There has been no official confirmation if opening of the 32-kilometres bypass is part of the President’s schedule.
Construction works for the Ksh6 billion project, largely funded by the African Development Bank, were launched by Uhuru and his deputy Dr. William Ruto in 2017.
Eldoret bypass is among legacy projects initiated by the Jubilee government.
It seeks to address traffic congestion in Eldoret town by diverting long distance trucks to the bypass, instead of passing through the CBD as it is the current case.
