Updated List of All Cabinet Secretaries in Kenya

Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) in Kenya are senior ministers who head the country’s ministries and play a central role in executive governance.

Appointed by the President, the CSs are responsible for setting policy directions for their respective ministries, coordinating government programs across the executive branch, and ensuring alignment with national priorities.

They also oversee the implementation of laws and public services, manage budget requests, and supervise principal secretaries who lead technical departments.

How many Cabinet Secretaries are in Kenya?

According to Article 152 of the Constitution of Kenya, the number of Cabinet Secretaries should not exceed 22.

This number has remained consistent since the promulgation of the constitution in 2010.

President William Ruto has reshuffled his Cabinet at least twice between 2024 and 2026 to accommodate the Orange Democratic Movement in the broad-based arrangement.

Constitutionally, the President appoints Cabinet Secretaries, who must undergo parliamentary vetting before confirmation.
