‘Wananitesa Kila Siku Kotini Kumbe Watu Hawana Makaratasi Ni Wengi’ – Oscar Sudi

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has waded into an ongoing debate over alleged academic certificates that some politicians have.

The debate was recently reignited as politicians eyeing gubernatorial and presidential seats were required to posses degrees before they are cleared to contest.

But as the aspirants presented their papers, some had their degrees questioned – prominent among them being gubernatorial candidates Johnson Sakaja, Wavinya Ndeti and Cleophas Malala.

DP Ruto when he brokered a deal to allow Sakaja fly the UDA gubernatorial ticket in Nairobi and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru dropped to the Senate seat.

The three have since been cleared, with Sakaja’s case still pending in court.

A number of presidential aspirants also failed to be cleared for lack of certificates.

But with the debate raging on, Sudi now claims there are many politicians with questionable academic certificates.

Speaking when he hosted over 5,000 members of the Luhya Community at his rural home in Kapseret, the vocal legislator lamented that he was being unfairly targeted in regards to his academic papers.

Wale watu hawajasoma ni wengi sana,” noted the MP who is facing forgery charges in relation to a KCSE certificate he used when seeking clearence from IEBC in 2013.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi addressing members of the Luhya Community on July 2, 2022.

Wananitesa kila siku kortini na kumbe watu hawana makaratasi ni wengi,” he added, while claiming former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi also have questionable academic certificates.

The legislator seeking a third term in the upcoming general election says he only recognizes Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula’s papers.

This, Sudi says, is based on the Ford Kenya’s fluent English.

He however insisted that he went to school, contrary to claims he has no KCSE certificate.

Na sio eti sikuenda shule. Nilifurahi wakati waliuliza tinga (Raila Odinga) aseme classmates wake. Heri hata mimi naeza kuletea wenye tulisoma nao. Na mkiniona Mimi nakaa sikusoma?” he asked the locals.

At the height of questions over Sakaja’s degree, Deputy President William Ruto said the person whose papers were to be probed was the ODM leader, and challenged that he shares with the public who his classmates and teachers were.

Odinga acquired his degree in Germany, and IEBC says his academic papers were in order, as required of a presidential candidate.
