Winners for Turbo Sub-County Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament

Riveting action was witnessed across various wards as Turbo Sub-County held its finals on Sunday, March 12, 2023 – the search for the Governor’s Cup Volleyball Tourney’s winner gathering pace.

Turbo Sub-County’s Wards of Kapsaos, Kiplombe, Kamagut, Ng’enyilel and Tapsagoi held its finals.

Kapkoros men won the Kapsaos Ward competition after beating Milimani 3-1 in a heated match played at Kapsaos Primary School. Kapkoros won the first set 26-24, the second 25-20, lost the third 23-25 and won the fourth 25-18.

Kapsaos women won in a round-robin format.

In Kamagut Ward, Centre Kwanza beat Cheptabach 3-1 in the last round-robin matches played at Jua Kali Police Station Grounds.

Centre Kwanza opened the score sheet with a 25-21 victory, Cheptabach appealed and won the second set 25-19.

Centre Kwanza rallied machinery and won the third 25-22 and 25-18 to seal a 3-1 victory over Cheptabach, which had a fair share of ageing players. In the women’s category, Jua Kali beat a hapless Kapkeben woman 3-0 to earn the trophy.

Hot Rangers were awarded as first runners-up, having beat Cheptabach 3-2 on Saturday collecting points to guarantee them a second position.

Chepkoiyo B overwhelmed Ainabmoi, to win the Kiplombe Ward contest. The winners took two straight sets for a 2-0 victory of 25-19, 25-20.

Osorongai men and women

Ng’enyilel Ward will be represented at next month’s finals by Osorongai men and their sisters, St Mary’s Osorongai.

Osorongai men topped the ward championship after seeing off Kapkures 3-1 of 25-23, 15-25, 25-17 and 25-22. Their sisters, St Mary’s Osorongai showed no mercy to Kapkures 3-0 in finals played at Osorongai Cooler Grounds.

Rains interrupted a men’s final match between Kosachei and Victory. Atlas women beat Kosachei 3-0.

Uasin Gishu Assembly chair of the Sports Committee, Gilbert Lagat, said the legislature will work with the executive to empower youth through programs like sports. His Kapsaos peer, Isaac Samoei had the same sentiments.

Director for Youth, Henry Mukholwe, before awarding teams in several venues, said the county government is working on policies establishing youth sports centres to help nurture talents from across the county.

The county government is drafting policies that will set up talent centres, at least one in every sub-county,” said Mukholwe.

The County Government is very keen to identify and nurture talent. Many more programs including football will follow the volleyball tournament in coming years,” Mukholwe closed.

His fellow Directors Steve Kemoi and Peter Ruto called on the youth to take advantage of county empowerment programs.
