Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Wisely Rotich has picked a scholar as his running mate.
Rotich who is the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominee for the gubernatorial seat on Sunday, May 15, 2022, announced that he had appointed Prof. Grace Jerotich Cheserek as his deputy.
In a post on his Facebook page, the youthful deputy county boss said Prof. Jerotich is a distinguished scholar, expert in strategic management, highly experienced administrator, resource mobilized, and passionate about community service.
She was born in Kamok village, Kapsowar ward before later relocating to Jemunada, Moiben Kuserwo Ward.
“I am confident that she will be of high value to our county and community,” said Wisely Rotich.
The UDA Nominee for the Elgeyo Marakwet gubernatorial seat further says his deputy nominee has actively participated in connecting county youth to opportunities abroad, which is part of his agenda under PEPEA program.
Prof. Grace Cherotich Cheserek has a PHD in Environmental studies. Her PhD thesis was on natural resource conflict along Kerio Valley.
She is currently the National Employment Authority board chairperson – a position she has held since January 2021. She is also a board member of Chebororwa Girls Secondary School and St. Patrick Boys High School, Iten.
Wisely Rotich says his deputy governor nominee “hopes to use her experience and expertise to solve challenges facing the county that includes perennial conflicts along Kerio Valley, deteriorating environment along the escarpment, low farm produce prices and creating job opportunities for the youth.”
In the Elgeyo Marakwet gubernatorial race, Rotich is considered the favorite to win the seat, having secured the UDA ticket by beating a number of experienced aspirants among them former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett and former The Eldoret National Polytechnic Chief Principal Josephat Sawe.
He has served as a deputy to the outgoing governor Eng. Alex Tolgos since they won the 2017 general election.
