Residents of Ziwa and the larger Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from improved access to surgical care after Health Services County Executive Janet Kurgat led an inspection tour of the newly prepared theatres at Ziwa Sub-County Hospital and confirmed their readiness to perform surgeries.
Kurgat, who was flanked by Clinical Services Chief Officer Ambrose Tarus, assessed the hospital’s theatre infrastructure, equipment, staffing preparedness, and operational systems during the visit aimed at evaluating the facility’s capacity to offer safe and efficient surgical services.
Speaking during the assessment, Kurgat said the county government remains committed to strengthening healthcare delivery by expanding access to specialized and emergency medical services closer to residents.

She noted that the operationalization of the general and ceaserian theatres will significantly reduce referrals to distant facilities and ease the burden on patients seeking surgical care.
“The readiness of these theatres marks a major milestone in our efforts to enhance healthcare services at the grassroots level. Patients will now be able to access timely surgical interventions within their locality,” said Kurgat.
Chief Officer Ambrose Tarus lauded the progress made at the facility, noting that the hospital has met critical standards required for theatre operations. He emphasized that the county is focused on ensuring that health facilities are adequately equipped and staffed to deliver quality and safe procedures.

The inspection forms part of the County Government of Uasin Gishu’s broader agenda to upgrade health infrastructure and improve service delivery across all levels of care.
Once operational, the Ziwa Sub-County Hospital theatres are expected to boost efficiency in handling both elective and emergency surgical cases while improving patient outcomes across the region.
