Bodaboda Rider Surrenders to Police after Killing Girlfriend in Chelabal-Ziwa

A 23-year-old bodaboda rider from Ziwa-Chelabal village in Soy Sub-County on Monday, August 1, 2022, surrendered to the Ziwa Police station after killing his longtime girlfriend.

According to Chelabal village elder Simeon Tarus, the suspect, identified as Meshack Cheubei is said to have been angered by his girlfriend’s decision to end their relationship after being advised by her parents to concentrate on her college studies.

The deceased has been named Hilda Jerop.

The young man went to her girlfriend’s home where she met her mother who demanded an end to their relationship. Cheubei may have been angered by those words and immediately he went looking for a knife. He came back and after a brief conversation with Jerop at her home he stubbed her by the neck, on the face and on both her right and left legs before disappearing,” said Tarus.

The bodaboda rider is said to have had a young child with Jerop and was well known by her family.

The Young man was not married to the 24-year-old lady and the family of Jerop appears not to have been supportive of that relationship. They wanted their daughter to get back to school and continue with her college studies. Unfortunately for the suspect, he had expectations of settling down with Jerop,” said the Village Elder.

The victim succumbed to her injuries while being taken to Ziwa District Hospital.

Her body has been moved to Racecourse Hospital Mortuary within Kapseret Sub-County, awaiting postmortem.
