CAF Awards: Kenya Bags 3 Nominations in Women’s Category

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has unveiled the list of nominees for the women’s categories of the 2024 CAF Awards.

Kenya proudly featured in three categories: Player, National Team, and Coach of the Year.

The Junior Starlets, Kenya’s U17 women’s team, have been nominated for the Women’s Team of the Year. This recognition follows their historic qualification for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

This was the first Kenyan national team to reach the global stage. The team capped its maiden World Cup campaign with a memorable victory in its final group-stage match against Mexico.

Valerie Nekesa, a standout performer for the Junior Starlets, has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. Her exceptional contributions on the field were instrumental in the team’s success.

Adding to Kenya’s honours, Coach Mildred Cheche has been shortlisted for Coach of the Year. Coach Cheche made history as the first Kenyan coach to lead a team to a FIFA World Cup.

The winners will be determined through a voting process involving the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, Head Coaches and Captains of Member Associations, as well as clubs participating in CAF Interclub competitions.

The 2024 CAF Awards will honour achievements between January and October 2024. The ceremony is scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.
