All is set for the construction of a multi-million Aggregation and Industrial Park at Namandala area, Kapomboi ward, Kwanza Constituency in Trans Nzoia County.
Trans Nzoia Trade County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Stanley Kirui says the Ministry of Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria is expected to grace the groundbreaking ceremony this Thursday.
“CS Moses Kuria among other dignitaries will be hosted by our Governor George Natembeya at Namandala for this high profile event,” Kirui told the press on Tuesday.
The Aggregation and Industrial Park will sit on 100 acres piece of land. The Aggregation Park will occupy 10 acres of land while an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) will occupy 90 acres.
According to the County Executive, the mega project is co-financed by the National Government and the County Government of Trans Nzoia.
“We have received a grant of Ksh250 million from the Central government and we have already set aside the same amount to finance this project,” he added.
Job opportunities
Once the park is complete and fully operational, it is expected to create over 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Kirui further said the park that is due for completion in two years will focus on value addition for agricultural produces.
“County Aggregation Park will do value addition for at least six value chains. These are maize, tea, coffee, milk edible oil and poultry,” he added.
Eliud Tormoi, a leadership and governance expert in Trans Nzoia lauded the government for coming up with 47 Aggregation and Industrial Parks saying it will help reduce unemployment in the country.
“This is a timely initiative and we fully welcome it because we know it will address unemployment crisis which threatens our national security,” Tormoi said.
Similar sentiments were shared by Joram Mweresa who vied for Likuyani Constituency Member of Parliament in last year’s elections.
“Our President William Ruto is a man who keeps his words. This is one of the things he promised Kenyans in his manifesto,” Mweresa said.
