Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, flagged off Education Officers who have been tasked to distribute teaching and learning materials in 632 ECDEs across the County.
The Department of Education under Governor Jackson K. Arap Mandago’s administration has ensured the foundation of early learners is strengthened through the construction, staffing and equipping of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) units across the County.
Apart from distributing learning and teaching materials, the department has also constructed modern ECDE classrooms.

Huruma, Kimumu, Kapsoya and Langas are among the wards that benefited from the supply of the learning materials on Wednesday.
According to Uasin Gishu Education Department Chief Officer Jane Njuguna, the initiative is part of the county government’s effort to offer affordable and accessible education to the locals.
“When we have a quality education that is accessible and affordable, our children will have a good foundation and a better future,” Njuguna said.
“This will also reduce illiteracy levels in our county,” she added.

Further, the Chief Officer said the county has invested heavily in ECDE, with an aim of providing a conducive environment for the learners, and ensuring they have sufficient learning materials.
Under the current model of a devolved system of government, ECDE, also known as nursery education is a mandate of the county governments.
Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) is described as an important period in child development.
