Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Administration of National Government Prof. Kithure Kindiki is set to make his maiden trip to the troubled Kerio Valley region.
According to Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, the CS will be visiting the region on Tuesday, January 3, 2022.
In a post on his Facebook page, Rotich said Prof. Kindiki will be at Chesongoch for a meeting he said would admit the region’s security challenges.
“Cabinet secretary Interior Hon Prof Kindiki Kithure will be at Chesongoch on Tuesday 3rd January 2023 at 10.30 am to address the insecurity situation in Kerio valley,” the governor said in part of the Facebook post dated January 2, 2023.
“We are pushing for long-term solutions,” he added.
CS Kindiki will be visiting Kerio Valley, barely two days after a bandit attack that left two girls dead.
The two girls are sisters. One was a form three student at Kabulwo Secondary School and the other was a Standard 7 pupil at Kabetwa Primary School. They were killed in an attack at Endo Ward.
Annual peace prayers
Surprisingly, the bandit attack took place at a time communities from West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet had gathered at Kapsait for annual peace prayers.
“It is sad and disheartening that as we prayed for long-lasting peace among our communities we lost the lives of two innocent girls at Ketut location, Endo Ward through banditry,” Governor Rotich said on Sunday.
He also called on the security apparatus in the area to ensure the culprits are arrested and livestock stolen during the incident recovered.
But even with the latest attack, the county boss is optimistic a lasting solution will be found.
“We recently tested a surveillance drone in Tot that will aid security officers in tracing and trailing bandits. With this and other interventions, I am optimistic that we shall arrest this vice soon,” Rotich said.
