Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on December 31, 2022, announced changes in the ministry’s top leadership, recalling all the regional commissioners.
In a statement, Kindiki appointed eight new regional commissioners to take over from the recalled ones.
The changes, the CS said, will take effect immediately and are aimed at enhancing service delivery.
“All region commissioners have been recalled to the ministry headquarters for further deployment,” Kindiki said.

Among the new regional commissioners is Abdi Hassan who served as the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner.
Hassan will now be in charge of the Rift Valley region.
He was the Uasin Gishu county commissioner until 2019 when he was transferred to Kisumu, and replaced by Abdirisak Jaldesa.
Abdi Hassan is known for being tough-talking, and will now be mandated to handle the tricky Rift Valley region that has faced insecurity issues due to bandit attacks.

- Eastern – Paul Rotich
- Central – Fredrick Shisia
- Rift Valley – Abdi Hassan
- Western – Samson Irungu
- Nyanza – Flora Mworoa
- Nairobi – Katee Mwanza
The changes come barely three months after President William Ruto took an oath of office. Ruto had during the campaigns accused some regional commissioners of working for the Azimio coalition.
No changes have however been made to the County Commissioners, with CS Kindiki only appointing three new county commissioners – Tom Anjere (Kisii), William Kaimba (Makueni) and Felix Watakila (Kajiado).
Since his inauguration, the President has been re-aligning his government and recently revoked the appointment of several individuals that his Predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta appointed.
