Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago is asking Kenyans not to wait until the last hour before they go to the polls.
Speaking after casting his vote at Limnyamoi Primary School in Soy Constituency, the governor who is also the Uasin Gishu UDA Senate candidates said he was happy with the progress.
Polling stations in Uasin Gishu County opened as early as 6.00 am and there has been no issues reported.
“We are happy with the process,” Mandago said after voting.
“All I want to ask is for the voters to make it early to the polling station. Don’t want for the last minute,” he added.
The governor is vying for the Senate seat against independent candidate Robert Arap Kemei.
His call for Kenyans not to wait until the last minute come after IEBC said as per data from KIEMs kits, over 6.5 million voters had turned up and voted as at 12 noon.
But for Dr Elias Melly, the Soy MP independent candidate, he is happy with the voter turnout.
Speaking after casting his vote at Railways Dispensary in Eldoret town, Melly expressed confidence the election will free and fair.
“The turn out looks good. People are still streaming in,” Melly who is facing among others UDA’s David Kiplagat said.
Railways Dispensary is one of the biggest polling station in Soy Constituency with over 4,000 registered voters.
There are over 506,000 registered voters in Uasin Gishu spread across six constituencies and 30 wards.
The county had 486 polling stations.
