Traders in Uasin Gishu who will have not paid their licence fee by the end of this week will face unspecified severe consequences going by a directive by the County Government of Uasin Gishu that demanded them to pay annual licensing fees by the end of April.
According to the Director of Licensing and Compliance David Kebenei, the deadline for payment of the licences was extended for a period of one month thereby giving traders and other business people a grace period of a month to comply.
Kebenei has urged traders and business people to utilise the remaining period to renew their licences and avoid the heavy penalties that include a 50% increase due to non-compliance.

“We will start compliance and impose a 50 per cent penalty on all the bills payable. We will also be sending a team out to compel people to come out from their trading units and business premises to pay,” Kebenei said.
He added that despite the extension of the period, few traders have been visiting the county service centre to renew their licences.
However, Kebenei said the deadline given doesn’t apply to those traders and business people who are opening new businesses.
