Eldoret-Iten Road to Be Temporarily Closed

The Eldoret-Iten Road which connects Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties will be closed for close to six hours this Sunday, December 5, 2021.

According to public notice by the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, the temporary closure is as a result of the planned Iten End GBV Road Race scheduled for the same day.

The notice by County Secretary Paul Chemmuttut indicates that the closure will affect Boundary – Iten Township from 6.00 am to 11.00 am.

“The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet hereby gives notice to the public that a section of ELDORET – ITEN Road will be temporarily closed on Sunday 5th December 2021 from 6.00 am to 11.00 am. The affected section will be from BOUNDARY – ITEN TOWNSHIP. The purpose of the closure is to facilitate ITEN END GBV ROAD RACE,” read part of the notice, also shared on the county’s official Facebook page.

The race is part of commemorating 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Road users that will be affected by the temporary closure have been asked to use Boundary – Kiptabus – St Patrick’s Boys High School route.

“Motorists are further requested to follow directions as shall be indicated on the road signage provided and/or by traffic marshalls on site.
