Incoming Eldoret National Polytechnic peer counselors have been encouraged to uphold high level of confidentiality.
Addressing the peer counselors during a training session on February 26, 2025, institution’s Examination Officer in the Liberal Department Ismael Korir affirmed the importance of them not disclosing any information shared to them in confidentiality.
He said trust remains a key virtue in peer counselling.
“Do not discuss your client’s issues outside the counselling room,” Korir cautioned.

His sentiments were echoed by the institution’s course tutor in counselling psychology, Pamela Mienda.
Mienda emphasized that the main agenda of the session was to teach the peer counsellors how to be trustworthy.
She also highlighted the need for confidentiality to prevent gossip about others’ issues.
“Some students enjoy talking about others’ problems, yet in reality, they are the problem,” Mienda remarked.
“Today, we are here to train you on how to keep things confidential, which is why we have isolated you from others,” she added.

The session will go on for three days after which which the peer counselors will be expected to have mastered all the areas under their expected roles.
