Eldoret: Plans for Kidiwa Housing Project Ground Breaking at Advanced Stage

The Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member for the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development Anthony Sitienei, has affirmed his department’s focus on ensuring that the Governor’s Nguzo Kumi initiative on Affordable Housing and improvement of Urban areas is realised even as Eldoret is set to receive its city status soon.

While in a consultative meeting with the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Housing and Urban Development Zachariah Njeru; in his office, Sitienei affirmed that Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration was committed to giving a facelift to the upcoming fifth city – Eldoret.

On his part, CS Njeru commended the County for availing it’s land resource and going ahead to set up a demonstration of an affordable Housing project at Macharia estate.

You have already demonstrated that Eldoret is ready for the Affordable Housing projects by constructing the 24 Housing units at Macharia. The Ministry is at an advanced stage in preparations for ground breaking of Kidiwa Housing project,”assured the CS

The designs for Macharia, Pioneer and AMS are on going as well,” he added.

Infrastructure developments in various Settlements

CECM Anthony Sitienei, appreciated Njeru for the support and funding on the ongoing projects, that have successfully been started through collaboration with ministry; including the construction of the state of the art market and the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme that will set pace to improve infrastructure developments in various Settlements.

With projects including the upcoming Railway City, we are assured of expanding city for Uasin Gishu residents,” noted the County Executive.

In addition, Chief Officer Housing and Urban Development Julius Koech noted the need for an urgent intervention on drainage systems and sewer lines especially in areas like kimumu that was prone to flooding.

With the expected heavy downfall from Elnino, Kimumu and it’s environs is prone to damages and property loss. We request for collaborative efforts to establish lasting solutions for storm water management,” said Koech.

Further, Director Housing Beatrice Menjo, noted that the engagement of the ministry would be of great benefit to the residents of Uasin Gishu and assured the Cabinet Secretary of available expertise on projects implementation at the county level.

The team also had more discussions with the state Director for Housing Maina on more areas of collaboration.
