Emmanuel Wanyonyi Nominated For Male Rising Star Of The Year

2021 World Athletics U20 Gold medalist Emanuel Wanyonyi has been nominated for the Male Rising Star of the Year award.

The 18-year-old Kenyan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800 metres has bagged the nomination to the awards that recognize best under 20 athletes following his impressive performance in the Oregon World Championships.

He finished fourth in the race that comprised senior athletes with a time of 1:44.54.

Further, he won the Rabat Diamond League meeting at 1:45.47 in June 2022.

Athletics Kenya (AK) announced Wanyonyi’s nomination in a post on their verified Facebook page.

In the race for the Male Rising Star of the Year award, Emmanuel Wanyonyi will be facing off with among others the world U-20 triple jump champion, Jaydon Hibbert.

The Jamaican registered his record and lifetime best jump of 17.27m to claim gold in the World U-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia held in August 2022.

Others nominated for the award are Erriyon Knighton of the United States of America, Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and Anthony Ammirati of France.
