While Makueni County is celebrating their football team’s win in the just concluded Kenya Youth Inter County Sports Association (KYISA) games, there are als celebrations elsewhere, hundreds of kilometres away in Eldoret town.
The Espodec Starlets family is also celebrating one of their own – Mercy Kyalo who was part of the Makueni football team.
Mercy, 20, played a starring role in helping her county emerge victorious.
She is an attacking midfielder.
The role she played saw her named the best player at the tournament that came to an end on Saturday in Taraka Nithi County.
Two Espodec Starlets players were called up to their respective counties teams.
The other was Brenda Jerotich that was in the Elgeyo Marakwet football team.
Elgeyo Marakwet were edged out of the tournament at the semi finals – an equally impressive results for the 19-year-old.
It was the second year running that the two were picked to represent their counties at the youth games.
Maurice Kamau, the Espodec Starlets coach sharing news of Mercy’s success at KYSIA games described her as disciplined, hardworking and a player with self drive.
“She’s super talented and a team player. She keeps on telling me she dreams of playing abroad,” Kamau said.
Meanwhile, it was celebration galore as Uasin Gishu ladies won the KYISA Games Volleyball title.
County Executive Committee Member for Sports and Youth Eng. Lucy Ng’endo Njoroge led the Uasin Gishu delegation in the celebrations.
