FORD Kenya Youth League Trans Nzoia chapter has fired a warning shot at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Cleophas Malala.
This follows Malala’s call for the party alongside the Amani National Congress (ANC) to fold up and join UDA.
According to the Youth League Secretary General Abraham Wangila, the folding of Ford Kenya and ANC is likely to weaken the strength of the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
“We, FORD Kenya Trans Nzoia Youth League sound a last warning to one Cleophas Omondi Malala to stop rocking the boat from within or we make his landing tuff everywhere,” Wangila said.
He further called on the UDA secretary general to respect other political parties within the coalition and stop pushing for their dissolution.
“Malala should be told that if it was not for FORD KENYA party, we could have lost last year’s General elections as Kenya Kwanza,” Wangila said.
Make a public apology
On his part, Harrison Wesa, Youth League chairperson asked the former Kakamega Senator to apologise to FORD Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula, party officials and members.
He said it was in bad taste for Malala to demean the party and its leadership under the National Assembly Speaker.
“We demand that he makes a public apology as soon as possible,” Wesa said.
In addition, Samuel Simiyu, the Director of Communication for the Youth League said Malala’s quest to have one party is a serious threat to multi-party democracy fought for by the founders of the party.
He also termed the statement as reckless.
“Malala made reckless statements and he should be reminded that the freedom of speech he enjoys is a result of the sacrifices made by our party’s founding fathers,” Simiyu said.
The FORD Kenya Party Youth League Trans Nzoia chapter leaders who also comprised of Loryne Apondo and Luke Makhanu say they are ready to frustrate Malala’s plans in the Western region should he not apologise to the FORD Kenya fraternity.
They said the party was the second oldest in the country and that they would not allow the UDA Secretary-General to bring it down.
“We are ready to deal with him if he continues to disrespect us and our party,” Makhanu said.
Immediately he took over UDA as the Secretary-General from nominated Senator Veronica Maina in February 2023, Malala called for all other parties in Kenya Kwanza to fold and join UDA.
In March this year, six Kenya Kwanza Alliance affiliate parties folded and joined UDA which is the single largest party in the county in terms of the number of elected leaders.
