Police officers in Nairobi have arrested four suspects linked to last week’s theft of Quickmart Supermarket’s Ksh94.9 million.
The cash headed for deposit to bank in the city mysteriously disappeared while in the hands of two Wells Fargo Company employees.
A statement from the National Police Service indicate that the four were arrested by DCI officers who have been in pursuit of the stolen money since November 6, 2023, when the incident was reported.
Among those arrested is Ismael Patrick Gitonga, the owner of a car police suspect was used to transport the stolen millions.
Gitonga was arrested in Rongai.

“Ismael Patrick Gitonga, the owner and driver of motor vehicle registration number KBM 751W Fielder suspected to have been used to ferry the stolen cash from the escort van, was arrested within Rongai area and the motor vehicle traced to Njiru within Kayole,” NPS said.
Modifying vehicle
Two other suspects, Michael Matolo Njeru and Samwel Onyango were arrested in Njiru while in the process of modifying the vehicle to possibly conceal its identity.
The fourth suspect Martin Nderi Nganga was arrested within Kasarani area.
NPS further said they have recovered Ksh9 million from Nderi’s house.

They believe the money is part of the stolen Ksh94.9 million.
“Martin Nderi Nganga was arrested in Kasarani and Kshs 9,101,300/= recovered at his rented house,” read part of the NPS statement posted on X.
“Also recovered was a cashbox at a forest next to Gataka Market in Karen Estate,” it added.
Meanwhile, police say efforts to trace, arrest and recover the remaining stolen cash continues.
The case is Pending Before Court, as Regional Criminal Investigations Office Nairobi continues with investigations.
Police reports indicate that two Wells Fargo Company employees managed to sneak away from their police escort with the Ksh94,918,750 that had been loaded in a truck ready to be transported to the bank
