The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a reduction in the maximum retail pump prices for petroleum products in Kenya for the period from 15th April to 14th May 2025.
According to a press release issued on April 14, 2025, the price of Super Petrol will drop by KSh 1.95 per litre, Diesel by KShs.2.20, and Kerosene by KShs.2.40 per litre.
“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decreases by KShs.1.95/litre, KShs.2.20/litre and KShs.2.40/litre respectively,” EPRA stated.
Why Fuel prices dropped in Kenya
The reduction in prices is largely attributed to a drop in the average landed cost of petroleum products on the global market.
EPRA explained that the average landed cost of Super Petrol decreased by 4.89%, from USD 637.22 per cubic metre in February 2025 to USD 606.06 in March 2025.
Similarly, Diesel experienced a 6.45% decrease in landed cost, falling from USD 680.63 to USD 636.75 per cubic metre, while Kerosene dropped by 6.53%, from USD 672.14 to USD 628.22 per cubic metre.
“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased by 4.89% from US$637.22 per cubic metre in February 2025 to US$606.06 per cubic metre in March 2025,” the statement reads.
“Diesel decreased by 6.45% from US$680.63 per cubic metre to US$636.75 per cubic metre while Kerosene decreased by 6.53% from US$672.14 per cubic metre to US$628.22 per cubic metre over the same period.”

EPRA also clarified that the new prices include the applicable taxes as per current legislation.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.”
The revised fuel prices are part of EPRA’s regular monthly review mechanism, which aims to reflect changes in global oil prices and ensure fairness in the local petroleum market.
The new prices take effect from April 15, 2025, and will remain valid until May 14, 2025.
