Gaspo Women beat Vihiga Queens 2-0 away at Mumias Sports Complex to go top of the Kenya Women Premier League table.

Early goals from Anne Arusi and Emily Andayi are all the visitors needed to grab maximum points from the former Women Premier League champions.

Gaspo who before the match were third placed in the log rose to the top of the table as first leg matches concludes.

Vihiga Queens Coach Bonface Nyamu regretted the home loss but acknowledged the competition in the women league.

It’s our third loss of the season, yet we’re just halfway the season, last season we finished the season unbeaten having played these same teams,” he said.

Nyamu however attributed the struggles to high number of players suffering from injuries.

Many of our starting squad players are having injuries and some are just recovering,” he added.

On his part, Gaspo’s coach James Otieno praised his side for the away win.

We are delighted for the three points and a clean sheet against this team. It’s a good display of teamwork,” he said.

Otieno who recently took up the coaching position at Gaspo said that his side is a serious title contender and that his aim is to be this season’s champion.

The task ahead is challenging. I request my players to stay focused on our destination,” he added.

In another fixture, Thika Queens lost away to Zetech by a solitary goal.

In an earlier fixture at Mumias sports complex, Wadadia beat Kangemi 4-2.
