Governor Chelilim Installed Kenya Red Cross Patron, Life Member

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii  Chelilim has reiterated his commitment to continue initiating and supporting programs both locally and internationally to help create job opportunities and improve the economic status of young people in the county.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the County headquarters in Eldoret during a ceremony to install him as the Uasin Gishu Kenya Red Cross Patron and a life member of the humanitarian organisation, Governor Chelilim said his administration is greatly concerned about the welfare of the youth across the county.

I have been travelling abroad looking for partnerships with various institutions where our young people can get empowered. Let us help our young people to be active and in the end, they will abstain from indulging in alcohol and drug abuse so that we can have a better society,” he noted.

The Governor added that the County government will be partnering with the Kenya Red Cross and support programs on Health, Water and other areas aimed at improving the quality of life of the people.

Sustainable development

During the ceremony, the Kenya Red Cross Governor Geoffrey Korir hailed the governor’s ‘Nguzo Kumi’ manifesto saying it clearly captures key areas for sustainable development and is in line with the programs that their Red Cross stands for and ideal for partnerships.

Korir said the inaugural exercise is key and gives the Governor powers to ensure operations run smoothly and are made a reality.

He requested the county to support the organisation get land to establish a disaster response centre that will serve the region and also pledged to partner with the county’s youth department in order to roll out projects.

The ceremony was attended by Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot, CECM Agriculture Edward Sawe, CECM Lands Antony Sitienei, Red Cross North Rift region Manager Esther Chege and Uasin Gishu Red Cross Coordinator Alice Njare among others.
