The Treasury has finally released funds for the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Program.
Beneficiaries for the program that targets the elderly, persons with disabilities and the vulnerable in society had not been paid since July 2022.
The funds were previously being paid on a monthly basis.
But following the release of Ksh8.6 million, the payments are now set to be made.
In a letter seen by Uasin Gishu News, Judy Tuda, the Director of Social Assistance at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection said the government will pay the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Beneficiaries funds for the last four months.
The letter is addressed to all County Disability Services Officers, County Coordinators for Children’s Services, and social protection as well as sub-county officers for children’s services and social protection.
This means each beneficiary will be going home with Ksh8,000. The monthly payment for the program has been set at Ksh2,000 per beneficiary.
Four month’s pay
There are over a million individuals under the program.
“This is to inform you that the government has released Ksh8,755, 808 as payment to 1,072,226 Inua Jamii Cash transfer program beneficiaries currently on the payroll,” Tuda said in part of the letter dated January 4, 2023.
“The payment covers the July, August September October 2022 cycles and the disbursements will be through the contracted Payment Service Providers (PSPs),” she added.
The beneficiaries are scheduled to receive the on Monday, January 9, 2022.
Further, the Social Assistance director said the current payment is inclusive of Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE) Complimentary top-up, for 4,549 beneficiaries amounting to Ksh8,400,500.
The relevant national government officials have therefore been asked to mobilize the beneficiaries within their area of jurisdiction for the payment.
