Iten International Marathon: Justus Kiprotich, Valary Ayabei Crowned New Champions

Justus Kiprotich and Valary Ayabei are the 2024 Iten International Marathon Champions.

The two won the race, which is on its second edition that was held on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Kiprotich crossed the line in 2 hrs, 14 minutes and 3 seconds ahead of Benjamin Kigen and Joel Kimutai who finished second and third respectively.

In the womens category, Valary Aiyabei clocked 2 hours 28 minutes and 57 seconds to be crowned the new champion.

Vivian Kosgei and Sheila Kemei finished second and third respectively.

Winners were awarded Ksh 1 million with the second placed going home with Ksh 700,000.

Speaking at the end of the race, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich congratulated the winners and all participants for making this year’s marathon eventful.

I would like to thank the Local Organising Committee (LoC), our sports department, and all the fans who lined up to witness the gruelling race,” the Governor said.

He also recognised all the partners who included Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen represented by Sports Director Jackson Indakwa Director Sports, Standard Group, Kass Media, Kenya Commercial, Mozzart bet, the National Police Service, Lavington Security, PrintHub, Boresha sacco, Diesel Power, Equity Bank, Athletics Kenya, Lornah Sports academy, and all other service providers.

3. Joel Kimutai — 2:14.39

1. Valary Jemeli Aiyabei — 2:28.57

3. Sheila Jebichii Kemei — 2:37.28
