Trans Nzoia County’s sports team was officially flagged off on Sunday, November 24, 2024, by the acting County Executive Commitee Member for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture, and Tourism Patrick Gicheru.
The team now heads to Kakamega for the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games, set to run upto November 30, 2024.
Trans Nzoia county will compete in a range of disciplines, including football (men) volleyball (men and women), netball (women), darts (men and women), cultural dance, and field events.
Addressing the team before their departure, CECM Gicheru emphasized the importance of discipline as they represent the county.
“You are not just athletes; you are ambassadors of Trans Nzoia County. Keep your heads high and your conduct exemplary throughout the games.We expect nothing less than a positive display of teamwork, dedication, and respect for the rules,” Gicheru said.
The county execute also cautioned the players against the dangers of alcohol abuse, urging them to maintain a focus on the competition and their roles as county representatives.
In her remarks, Chief Officer for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture, and Tourism, Jane Wachwenge, expressed her optimism for the team’s success.
“I am looking forward to seeing many trophies come back with you. Remember, teamwork is key. Play as a unit and always have each other’s backs. Be your brother’s keeper,” Wachwenge said.
The KICOSCA games provide an opportunity for counties across Kenya to showcase their sporting talent as well as cultural heritage.
