The Junior Starlets faced a tough challenge against Korea DPR in their second match of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, ending with a 3-0 loss on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Estadio Cibao Stadium.
Korea DPR took the lead early in the match, with So Ryu Gyong opening the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by her brace in the 11th minute. The first half ended with Korea DPR holding a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw the team make strategic changes as Coach Cheche introduced fresh legs in an effort to turn the tide, she brought in Joan Ogola just before the second half replacing Velma Awuor and in the 62nd minute brought in Kimberly Akinyi for Valerie Nekesa.
The defensive line, led by Captain Elizabeth Ochaka, stood tall under pressure, keeping the Korean attack at bay for most of the half.
However, despite their best efforts, Korea DPR sealed the victory with a third goal in the 86th minute, cementing their lead.
Their focus now shifts to their final group match against Mexico on October 23, 2024, 2 am EAT at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez.
The Junior Starlets lost the opening game 2-0 against England.

With the second loss in the group stages, the Kenyan team is technically out of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup – a tournament they are participating in the firsf time.
However, they have already made history as Kenya’s first ever national football team to participate in a World Cup.
