The water shortage that Eldoret town locals have been facing for years might soon be a thing of the past.
This follows the ongoing Kipkaren Dam Water Supply Project that is funded by the National Government.

According to the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) Managing Director Peter Biwott, construction works for the project are expected to be complete by June 2022.
Once complete, the project will be able to supply up to 20 million liters of water to the Eldoret town locals daily.
“We are just from Nairobi and the Ministry of Water has confirmed that the project will be ready by June,” Biwott said.
The project will also supply 7 million liters of water daily to locals in Nandi County.
Construction works on Kipkaren Dam Water Supply Project valued at Ksh1.3 billion have faced delays, prompting warnings from government officials to contractors.

“I will not shy away from telling contractors implementing government projects that it was their obligation to ensure projects were completed on time so that Kenyans can benefit,” former Water Cabinet Secretary Cicily Kariuki had said during the inspection of the project in September 2020.
When completed, the water project is expected to serve more than 200,000 residents in Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties.
Some of the estates in Eldoret that will benefit include Langas, Elgon View, Kipkaren, and Kapseret.
“We have another pipeline project around Two River dam. We want to revitalize and rehabilitate it, and once done, water shortage and rationing in Eldoret will be a thing of the past up to 2030,” Biwott said.

Aside from the water project, the Eldowas boss also says they are working on improving sewerage connectivity within the town.
The project involves additional 47 kilometers of sewerage lines that would increase connectivity within the town to 60 percent.
“This is another key project that will help us in attaining the city status for Eldoret town,” noted the Eldowas MD.
