Locals of the Kipkenyo area on the outskirts of Eldoret town were on Tuesday left in shock after a decomposing body of a man was discovered in a metal box.
According to Hurlingham village Elder Barnaba Cheruiyot, the metal box was dropped by a numberless vehicle along Kipenyo-Kaptinga road.
Cheruiyot, in an interview at the scene of the incident, said the box was discovered by a boda boda operator who had witnessed the car drop it.

“The operator caught suspicious of the metal box that the car had just dropped. He came to me and we reported the matter to the Simat chief who sent police officers,” the village elder said.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers opened the metal box after which they discovered the decomposing body.
The body, the village elder says, could however not be immediately identified as it had partly decomposed.
“We suspect the body is of someone from far,” he said.
Insecurity
The village elder further called on the security team to enhance police patrols in the area.

He said there has been a rise in insecurity cases within the area in recent days hence the need for police to act and ensure the safety of the locals.
Eyewitnesses say the man had women’s clothing.
“This is a very shocking incident. The culprits might have thought the quarry that the Chinese road contractors were using was still there. But when they found it filled up, they had no other place to dump it,” noted Methuselah Kuto, a local in the area.
Police officers have since arrived at the scene of the incident. They moved the body to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for preservation.
The body is further expected to be subjected to a postmortem to identify the cause of death. This is even as the probe into the incident continues.
