The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has asked Christians across the country to support ongoing efforts to help those facing hunger.
NCCK North Rift Treasurer Bishop Josephat Kimani says with the support of Christians, no Kenyan will die of hunger.
Bishop Kimani revealed that as NCCK, they have already partnered with Mennonite Central Committee, a Non-Government Organization (NGO), to support Kenyans affected by hunger in Turkana County.
“We have been in Turkana South and Turkana East giving food, water, clothing and other non-food items for the last three months,” said the NCCK Treasurer.
“We have been camping there, even in Lokichar, and we are happy that more well-wishers are joining us in this noble cause,” he added.

The Bishop further revealed that so far, they have used at least Ksh14 million in their mission in Turkana.
He hopes more people will join in ensuring all those affected by hunger, worsened by poor rains this season will be reached.
“Every Christian should join this program in line with the Bible teaching of helping the needy, visiting the sick and giving food to the hungry,” he noted.
In the initiative, NCCK in partnership with Mennonite Central Committee NGO have been giving Ksh6,000 to every family in Turkana East and have also supported at least 400 families in Turkana South with maize, beans, sugar and cooking oil.
Save a life initiative
NCCK is also part of a team that on Thursday launched an initiative dubbed ‘Save a Life’ which aims at mobilizing resources to support hunger-stricken areas.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim is the patron of the initiative that also brings together the business community and other government agencies like the National Cereals and Produce Board, and the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS).

Several corporates have also already committed to supporting the initiative.
During the unveiling of the initiative at the County Headquarters in Eldoret, the initiative’s chairperson Willy Kenei said they have already collected Ksh3 million.
Funds, foods and non-food items collected under the ‘Save a Life’ initiative are expected to be distributed to affected areas within the next to weeks.
