President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, announced 23 new promotions, appointments and postings in the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).
A press statement issued by Ministry of Defense Director of Public Communications Bogita Ongeri said the president, who is also the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces had made the decision on the advice of the Defense Council, chaired by Defense Cabinet Minister Eugene Wamalwa.
Here is the summary of the new changes at KDF;
Kenya Army promotions, appointments
- Maj General Peter Mbogo Njiru – Promoted to Lieutenant general (Lt Gen) and appointed commander Kenya Army, while Lt Gen Walter Kaipaton retires on completion of four years of duty.
- Brig David Kimaiyo Chemwaina Tarus – Promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Western Command.
- Brig Juma Shee Mwinyikai – Promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command
- Brig Fredrick Leuria – Promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrines and Training.
- Brig Mungai Nyaga – Promoted to Major General and appointed Force Commander East African Community Regional Force For DRC.
- Col William Kamoiro – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Second Brigade.
- Col Ahmed Mohammed Saman – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander Special Operations Brigade.
- Col Joel Muriungu M’Arimi – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander of the Recruits Training School.
- Col Joseph Douglas Mokwena – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Systems at Defense Headquarters.
- Col David Kiprotich Chesire – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander 8 Brigade.
- Col Alice Muringo Mate – Promoted to Brigadier and remains in the Legal Branch at Defense Headquarters.
- Col (Dr) David Kimeli Chepsiror – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Medical Officer, Isiolo Regional Hospital.
- Col Charles Ndirangu Mathenge – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Managing Director, Defense Forces, Food Processing Factory.
Kenya Airforce promotions, appointments
- Brig Bernard Waliaula – Promoted to Major General and appointed Director Defense National Security Industries.
- Col Mohammed Salah Farah – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander, Laikipia Airbase.
- Col Mohamed Dahir Ali – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Principal, Defense Forces Technical College.
- Col (Dr) Justino Mutisya Mwende – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Medical Officer, Eldoret Regional Hospital.
- Col Apollo Ogola Aloka – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Senior Directing Staff Air, National Defence College.
- Col Hillary Biwott Kipkosgey – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Director Kenya Space Agency.
- Col Ziporah Kalondu Kioko – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Strategic Communication, at the Defense Headquarters.
Kenya Navy promotions, appointments
- Col John Wekesa Khaoya – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Welfare and Compensation, at the Defense Headquarters.
- Col Timothy Stelu Lekolool – Promoted to Brigadier and remain ADC to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Other changes have also been made across the Kenya Defense Forces in line with the advice of the Defense Council,” said the statement.
The new promotions and appointments take effect immediately.
