The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has officially opened one of its flagship projects in Kapcherop Health Centre.

The infrastructure comprised a 36-bed capacity ward designated for both males and females. The unit also has a pediatric ward.

County’s department has equipped the laboratory with a complete haemogram machine which is fully operational and a stand-by generator serving the entire facility.

Governor Alex Tolgos graced the opening ceremony that was attended by a host of health workers led by Medical Services Chief Officer Mary Kipchumba and area acting Medical Officer of Health MOH Caleb Atoli.

Tolgos also laid a foundation stone for a Ksh84 million one-storey medical complex in the same facility.

The complex, according to Kipchumba, would constitute a modern Outpatient department OPD, Accident and Emergency unit, theatre, Radiology, Eye unit, Laboratory services, Dental unit and a doctor’s Plaza.

Once complete, Kapcherop health centre will be upgraded to a sub-county hospital courtesy of the massive infrastructural development,” said Tolgos.

Tolgos said he was happy that he opened the project before exiting the office saying it was one of his legacy projects.

I have strived to ensure that all development projects undertaken by my administration are completed. Having left with a few days before I hand over office to the next Governor, I am happy that we have been able to open this facility,” said Tolgos.

Kapcherop Health facility also serves the neighbouring counties of Trans Nzoia and West Pokot.
