Race for the Uasin Gishu Woman Representative seat is heating up ahead of the upcoming party primaries.
With Uasin Gishu dominated by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), most of the aspirants are seeking to get the party’s ticket, ahead of the August 9 poll.
It is almost an assured win in the main poll for the aspirants that will win the UDA nominations – especially in counties like Uasin Gishu – and this is the reason the stakes are high.
The current Woman Rep Gladys Boss Shollei is seeking to get a second term in the National Assembly.
Gladys Boss was elected in 2017, to succeed the first Woman Rep Eusilah Ng’eny who served from 2013.
We take a look at individuals eyeing the seat on a UDA ticket;
Rael Jebichii
She is considered the strongest competitor with the ability to give Shollei a run for her money.
Jebichii vied for the same seat in 2017, but lost during Jubilee party primaries, and also the general elections after opting to vie as an independent candidate.
On both occasions, she finished second – and she is hoping to be lucky this time around.
Kate Kirui
Although she is a new entrant in the political waters, pundits say Kate Kirui has the ability to cause an upset in the Woman Rep seat race.
She is a well-known businesswoman – running a business empire that includes the famous Sky Cake – which has directly and indirectly created jobs for many.
Zipporah Chebitok
Also in the race to replace Gladys Boss Shollei, Zipporah Chebitok is a youthful aspirant – hoping to ban on the youth numbers to win the coveted UDA nomination.
Hellen Jeptoo Ruto
She is also a youthful aspirant that continues to put up a spirited campaign at the grassroots.
Hellen Jeptoo Ruto is also a businesswoman.
All these aspirants will be facing off in the upcoming UDA nominations that have been scheduled to be held between 9th and 16th April 2022.
