MCAs Ask Mandago to Issue State of the County Address

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of Uasin Gishu have passed a motion asking Governor Jackson Mandago to issue a state-of-the-county address as required by law.

The County Governments Act requires governors to address the County Assembly to provide progress of the devolved unit

While moving the motion, Kimumu MCA Sarah Malel said the governor is supposed to give out a report on the progress of projects that his administration is implementing, including the completed ones.

“Residents of Uasin Gishu should be told the progress of project implementation because there are quite a number of projects that when we went for public participation the residents gave priority. The governor should be in a better place to explain to the house what programs have been delivered, and those yet to be completed,” said Malel.

The motion was seconded by Megun MCA Julius Sang who said that since 2018, governor Mandago has not addressed the County Assembly.

The state of the county address is a statutory requirement by law. We are aware that the government is preparing that address, and we hope it is made on time, he said.

During the debating of the motion, the MCAs said in the state of the county address, the county boss should ensure he provides details that will enable residents to know the performance of his administration.

They also want an explanation of how the county government will be handling its operations during the electioneering period.

Governor Jackson Mandago is serving his second, which is also the last term.

Having been first elected in 2013, Mandago is not eligible to vie for the same seat on the August 9, 2022 poll.

He has already joined the race to be the next Senator of the county.
