Over 26,000 needy secondary, middle-level college and university students in Saboti, Trans Nzoia County have a reason to smile.
This is after their school fees burden was relieved by the area Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursary.
The beneficiaries drawn from all five wards were identified through a thorough vetting process early in the year.
Speaking at various polling stations when he issued cheques, Amisi said all deserving students were considered.
“I believe in what Nelson Mandela said that education is the only equalizer. This bursary will enable needy students to access education just like other students from well-off families,” Amisi said.
The second-term legislator education is the only tool to liberate people from poverty.
“As an orphan, I was raised by my old grandparents and that is why I am very passionate about education. I am who I am because of education,” he stated.
Will Amisi vie for Vihiga governor seat?
In addition, the MP dismissed allegations that he is eyeing the Vihiga County Governor’s seat in 2027 and revealed that he will defend his parliamentary seat.
Amisi, a vocal Kenya Kwanza administration critic urged school principals not to send away students who have not paid school fees.
“I went to Vihiga to teach the people of Vihiga to educate the people there that a time has come for a new breed of leaders. The likes of Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula should exit the political stage,” Amisi noted.
Saboti Constituency bursaries come barely a week before secondary schools open for the second term.
