President William Samoei Ruto has arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, for the 24th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State.
The meeting will dwell on the sustainable financing plan of the eight-member economic bloc.
The constitution of the Political Confederation of the East African Community will also feature in the two-day session.
President Ruto will join his counterparts, the host Samia Suluhu, Salva Kiir (South Sudan and outgoing chairman), Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Evariste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Felix Tshisekedi (DRC) and Hassan Sheikh (Somalia).
The summit coincides with the celebration of the EAC’s 25 years of “remarkable progress” since its revival.
The event is an opportunity for the EAC, a market of more than 300 million people, to take stock of its achievements, challenges and the future of integration.
“We must harness emerging opportunities and build a more stable and competitive EAC that will accelerate the creation of a single continental market,” President Ruto said.
