The Kenya Red Cross Society Uasin Gishu Branch on Saturday, September 3, 2022, hosted a mega First Aid Competition for teams from the North Rift region.
It is during the competition that teams that will participate at the nationals were picked for various categories.
Some of the teams that emerged victorious include Unga Limited, Flash and Eveready.
The First Aid Competitions are used to assess the skills learnt by volunteers, juniors and senior First Aiders.
Participants are usually categorized in five levels – junior, secondary, tertiary, arcard and cooperates.

Further, the competition are presided over by the adjudicators.
The First Aid Competition is comprised of theory exams and practicals.

And after an action-packed competition that took the better part of the day, winners of each category were later in the evening announced publicly and handed over trophies.
In the junior category, team Echo emerged victorious against Rescue Rangers.
Swiss team carried the day in the secondary category while the Stars finished second.
And in the Tertiary level, team Flash edged out team Mzalendo to be crowned winners.
Eveready won the Red Cross Action category in which five teams participated.
The five also included Simba, Team Z, Team Angels, and Team Titans.

Further in the Cooperates category, it was a battle between teams from Unga Limited and Khetia’s-Kitale branch.
At the end of the day Unga Limited team were declared winners.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, North Rift Kenya Red Cross Society Regional Manager Esther Chege said, “We are all winners let us take this part to thank all of you who participated in this competition.”
National competition
Winners will be representing the North Rift region in the National First Aid Competition slated for September 8, 2022.
“We are hoping and believing that our teams who are also our ambassadors this time round you will emerge winners. We want to see number one coming from North Rift Region,” said the North Rift Kenya Red Cross Society Regional Manager.
During the First Aid Competitions, various teams showcase their awareness in several areas amog them how to handle casualties, attacking the wound, and handling the fractured bones of legs and hands.
