Access to health services within Marakwet East Sub County in Elgeyo Marakwet are set for a major boost.
This is after the county secured a partnership with M-PESA Foundation that will see Tot Sub-County Hospital equipped.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich on Monday announced that the M-PESA Foundation had agreed to fund construction of a Mother and Baby Unit at the hospital.
Rotich said the unit will cost Ksh40m.
“We are happy to announce that we have succeeded in our resource mobilisation request for Tot Sub-County Hospital,” the county boss said in an update on his verified Facebook page.

He said the latest development will ease access to health services for expectant mothers within Kerio Valley.
Currently, they have to travel a long distance to get the services offered at a Mother and Baby Unit.
“Mpesa Foundation has approved ksh 40 million to Build and Equip a mother and Baby unit to support the women and Children of Kerio valley who have suffered for decade,” Governor Rotich said.
The new unit will be a major addition to the Tot Sub-County Hospital.
Currently, the county is financing construction of an Outpatient Department.
“When all the projects are complete the people of kerio valley will not travel for long distance to get services,” he said.

The Governor further thanked the Safaricom team, Head of Foundation and friends of good will who supported the county in process.
Tot Sub-County Hospital now joins the other Sub-County hospitals that have gained from partners.
They include Kamwosor, Kaptarakwa, Iten County Referral Hospital, Chebiemit and Kapcherop Sub-County hospitals.
