Uasin Gishu To Experience Above Long-term Average Rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a rainfall and temperature outlook for October-November-December 2023 short rain season for Uasin Gishu County.

According to the agency, the October to December short rainfall season constitutes an important rainfall season over Uasin Gishu.

In the outlook seen by Uasin Gishu News, the forecast for October-November-December 2023 short rain season indicate that rainfall is expected to continue throughout the season.

The expected rainfalls is likely to be above the long-term average amounts for the season (Enhanced Rainfall).

This is as a result of warmer than average Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs) over the central and eastern equitorial Pacific Ocean indicating the presence of El Nino conditions which are likely to persist throughout October-November-December season,” says the Kenya Meteorological Department.

In addition, the warmer than average SSTs in Western Equitorial Indian Ocean coupled with cooler than average SSTs over the eastern equitorial Indian Ocean constitutes and positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) that is favourable for enhanced rainfall over most of East Africa.

Throughout the season, it is anticipated that most areas will have a relatively fair to good distribution of rainfall in both time and space.

Occasional storms are also likely to occur.

Further, the peak of the season is expected at the end of October and early November.

However, the forecast indicates that expected rainfall is likely to be poorly distributed in September and October and well distributed in November and December.
