At least 1,700 litres of illicit brew was impounded and destroyed on January 6, 2023, in sting operations in Kapseret and Soy Sub-Counties conducted by program and compliance officers.
The raid was undertaken in the Vumilia area in Soy Sub County, Kibabet, Kaptembur Squatters and Kwa Esther in Kapseret Sub-County.
While supervising the operation, Uasin Gishu Director of Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Maiyo Arap Koiya noted that notorious Changaa brewers have been cornered during an ongoing crackdown on illicit brew in most parts of the County.
Koiya said among those arrested is Caroline Awaka who was found with 200 litres of changaa and 550 litres of Kangara.
The brew that was later destroyed was found in Vumilia, Soy sub-county.

Another 30 litres of Chang’aa and 200 litres of Kangara were destroyed in Kibabet, Megun ward and 700 litres of Kangara were destroyed in Kwa Esther, Sach 4 Chelabal area, Kapseret sub-county.
The county alcoholic board boss has now urged residents to cooperate for the exercise to succeed.
He noted that illicit brew has robbed families and exposed the younger generation to poverty.
The operation was also extended to Kiluka and Naiberi trading centres in Ainabkoi Sub County.
