‘Usifanye Makosa Kutokuja Eldoret’, Uasin Gishu Azimio Members Tell Raila

/

A section of Azimio members in Uasin Gishu County has asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to include Eldoret among the towns he will be visiting for the anti-government political rallies.

Odinga and his brigade have for the last few weeks been holding rallies aimed at pushing the Kenya Kwanza government to lower the cost of living among others.

So far, he has held rallies in Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii and Machakos. They will be in Kakamega on February 25, 2023.

But with more of the meetings expected to come, the Azimio members in Uasin Gishu now want one of them to be in Eldoret, the home town of President William Ruto.

Azimio leaders KalonzO Musyoka, Raila Odinga and Martha Karua at Jeevanjee Gardens in Nairobi on February 22, 2023.

Tunaomba Raila Odinga asifanye makosa kutokuja Eldoret. Amefanya mikutano kaunti zingine na Eldoret ni bedroom ya baba. We implore upon him to have a similar meet-the-people meeting in Eldoret,” said Samuel Kipchumba, one of the Azimio members in Eldoret.

The opposition members were addressing a media briefing in Eldoret.

During the briefing, they lamented the high cost of living the country is currently experiencing.

They challenged the government to walk the talk, and keep its campaign promises of lowering the cost of maize flour, fuel, cooking oil, electricity and other basic commodities.

Life is unbearable for citizens all over the country. We were promised a people’s government but what we are currently experiencing is nothing close to the promises made by the President to better the economy and lives of  Kenyans,” said Evans Odhiambo who was the leader of the group.

They promised to lower the prices of basic commodities but that has remained a fallacy. There were a lot of empty promises that continue to hurt hustlers across the country. This government is not sensitive to the needs of its people,” added another local.

Hustler Fund

The locals further dismissed the Hustler Fund, which has been running since November 30, 2022, when it was launched by President William Ruto.

While the fund has been offering low-interest mobile loans to Kenyans, some of the Eldoret locals claim the amount available is too little to make a difference.

The Hustler Fund loans range from Ksh500. The loan limit was recently reviewed upwards for Kenyans that had borrowed and repaid multiple times.

Tuliahidiwa pesa bila riba  lakini walipotwaa uongozi walisema  hakuna pesa  ya bure. Wameleta  husler fund, pesa zenye tunapewa  zinatosha kunyoa tu lakini sio kuanzisha biashara,” said another local.
