The Uasin Gishu County has completed an exercise of contract signing between contractors and the department of Roads, Transport, Energy, and Public Works.
This is under the hire of construction equipment for the implementation of various roads projects in all the 30 wards across the Sub Counties.
According to Chief Officer Roads Julius Rotich who led the exercise, a total of 73 contracts signed will be implemented between January and April before heavy rains and people engage fully into the campaigns to ensure all roads are passable especially in rural areas.

The move is expected to have a huge impact in terms of road improvement.
“Out of the 73, we have noted that a lot of young upcoming contractors also won the tenders. I want to commend them because governor Mandago has been so keen on supporting the young upcoming contractors become serious contractors with the capacity to manage bigger projects,” said Rotich.

He added that they are going to use both the county equipment and the hired ones and payment will be measured using the hours that they will be working.
Contracts will be expected to be completed as per the specifications in the tender documents.

“The department will be monitoring closely the contractors on the ground to make sure they work within the timelines given to them,” added Rotich.
Rotich further commended the young contractors for showing a lot of capacity in the previous works and performance, proofing that they are growing in capacity to manage bigger projects if given an opportunity.
