A section of political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto has called on all individuals eyeing the presidency in the upcoming poll subjected to a mandatory drug test.

Led by Soy MP Caleb Kositany, the politicians say abusers of drugs should not be allowed to hold elective positions.

Speaking at his constituency, Kositany also called for legislation that will make it mandatory for all elected leaders and civil servants to be subjected to a mandatory drug test.

Kositany while officially joining the race a few months ago spelled out some of the areas that his government will be focusing on if elected the second governor of Uasin Gishu.

“Even us in parliament should be taken through a drug test to know who is a drug abuser and who is not. We want that to be a law everywhere,” said Kositany.

“The same should apply to those eying the presidency, we would not like to have a Head of State who is a drug abuser,” he added.

Kositany spoke while delivering a school bus to AIC Kaptebengwet Secondary School in Soy Ward.

At the event, the legislator also supported a directive by Education CS Prof. George Magoha that all errant students be subjected to the mandatory drug test.

According to Kositany, drug testing on students will help curb a recent wave of indiscipline cases in schools.

“We have many challenges of lack of discipline in schools, and I want to support CS Magoha on a directive that students be taken through a drug test. The same should be applied to teachers and parents,” noted the vocal MP.

Last year, CS Magoha sided with Maranda Boys High School management that had introduced a mandatory test, a move a section of parents objected to.

“A drug test is thoroughly in order because children are using drugs. Are you doubting it?” the CS told the press while in Mombasa on December 30, 2021.

There have been divided opinions among various stakeholders in the Education sector on whether students should be taken through a drug test or not.
