Dr Kosgey Takes Charge As New Cecm Lands, Physical Planning, Housing And Urban Development

Dr Janet Kosgey has assumed as the new County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development.

Speaking during a handing over ceremony held at Arthi House in Eldoret, Dr Kosgey said enhancing service delivery in Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development was was one of her key agendas.

I am looking forward to serious engagement since you are a strong team with capabilities and equal to the tasks. Team work is key. I reiterate the importance of ensuring that we are at per in delivery our duties without conflicts of interests,” said Dr. Kosgey.

She was handed over the docket by Anthony Sitienei who was moved to the Department of Education, Culture and Social Services.

Addressing a first meeting of the staff, the County Executive advised them, from the drivers, secretaries,technical staff and the seniors to play their roles diligently while aligning their deliveries to the Nguzo Kumi.

The department falls under pillar (nguzo/ number eight of Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s development blueprint.

A new office means learning more, understanding new processes and hence the technical team are key in information sharing and observance of protocols. We are two sectors and both must shine in their specific roles. Let’s share the strengths and make use of facts in making decisions,” noted Dr. Kosgey.

Plan approvals

She further emphasized the need for all plan approvals to be accompanied by thorough checks and site visits with proper background checks to ensure that all infrastructure developments are within the law.

Let’s work on Nguzo number 8 and deliver on all our sectors towards achieving our mandate as per the CIDP. We are the champions and we behold the same in our duties. Integrity, fairness, social justice are key factors for our success,” the County Executive said.

Chief Officer Housing and Urban Development Julius Koech while welcoming the new CECM named affordable housing as one of the key projects the department is implementing.

He said the Program has since seen investors express interests.

Town planning, upgrading of several townships to municipalities and the ongoing KISIP and KUSP projects are other key areas of focus on the Department.

In addition, Nathan Korir, the Chief Officer Lands and Physical Planning, noted the Department’s mandate as forward planning, development control and research on Physical Planning under Physical Planning Act.

Handling Boundary disputes, management of land issues in conjunction with the National Lands Commission (NLC) and sensitization on succession matters are others.

He also listed the ongoing projects as survey and titling of trading centres, preparation of valuation rolls, FAO plans on establishing of GIS office, subdivision policy and preparation of PDPs.

Other senior department officials also committed to offer smooth collaboration and technical support to the incoming CECM.
